Born of African American and Italian roots, she was raised in a household where craft was not merely a skill, but an inheritance. She first sat at a sewing machine at the age of nine, moving swiftly from the modest geometry of pillowcases to the graceful lines of gowns.

Her artistry is a living homage to two remarkable women whose legacies shaped her hands and her vision. From Italy came Great Aunt Bessy, a dressmaker of “Little Italy” in Belleville, New Jersey, who conjured silken dreams on a 1914 sewing machine—an heirloom Kelsy still keeps in her atelier. Bessy’s philosophy was clear: perfection in every stitch.

 

From her African American lineage came her grandmother Lucille, a formidable entrepreneur who upholstered chairs and couches by trade, yet found time to create garments for her eleven children. Through Lucille, the rhythm of the sewing machine passed from mother to daughter, an unbroken thread now in Kelsy’s hands.

With her label, Kelsy rejects the uniformity of mass production, championing instead the artistry of bespoke design. For her, there is no single formula for beauty—no fixed silhouette, no prescriptive style—only the boundless possibilities born when fabric, vision, and individuality converge.
